The T.O.R.D. Hardshell Hoody LW is a lightweight and very versatile rain and multi-purpose jacket made of a waterproof and breathable 3-layer laminate with membrane and tape sealed seams. The jacket has a variety of small details that turn the jacket into an ideal choice for a very wide range of applications.
The T.O.R.D. Hardshell Hoody LW from Outrider Tactical was designed as a classic 3-layer lightweight hardshell jacket and is extremely versatile in this role, both as a lightweight standalone solution, as well as in combination with other clothing layers. The jacket is part of the Outrider Tactical layering principle and can be ideally combined with the T.O.R.D. Windblock Fleece Jacket AR for cold weather.
Special importance was paid to the selection of a material that is waterproof and durable, but does not have the typical stiff character. Another focus was on ensuring that the fabric is as quiet as possible. The seams are, as usual for a wet weather jacket, sealed waterproof by using tape. To keep the inside visually in the background, bright materials were avoided and a dark gray / black color was chosen.
The waist can be adjusted by drawstring on the left and right of the hip to create a closure on the body or if desired also to support the chimney effect. The pockets are sized to take advantage of the available space at the front to accommodate large items. The jacket also has a classic upper arm pocket on both sleeves for quick access to smaller items, including a smartphone.
When designing the jacket, special attention was paid to ensuring that access to the side pockets is guaranteed when using a plate carrier or chest rig, and that the zippers do not lay under the plate. This minimizes annoying pressure points.
The sleeve construction is designed to maximize the user’s range of motion. No seams are located on the shoulder. The sleeves are also equipped with loop areas on the upper arm for attaching morale and ID patches.
The main waterproof zipper is a high quality two-way zip from SBS. There is a protective flap behind it which is designed to prevent irritation to the neck and to prevent pinching of the beard. The sleeve cuff is size adjustable and can be adjusted to fit wrist size and gloves.
The jacket is extended at the back to prevent the back area from being exposed when kneeling or bending down. The inside pocket has a headphone outlet for professional personnel who still work with wired headsets. The pocket holds standard powerbanks or even smartphones as well as ID documents. There are some loops for supplying pens and other small material to allow better organization inside.
The zipper pullers ensure a good grip even in wet and poor conditions when wearing tactical gloves. Special attention was paid to the design of the hood to fit the body, while not restricting the range of motion. The shape of the hood can be adjusted by two drawstrings at the front and one at the back of the hood.
